Shane Collins | President 

Shane Collins is the President of the GSU. His role as President of the GSU is to stand and speak up for postgraduate students when key decisions are being made by College authorities that will directly impact the postgraduate community. 

He also is directly involved in working with external groups to improve postgraduate conditions nationally. It is often decisions taken at a national level that directly impact us, as Trinity postgraduates, and external responsibilities are a key part of his role.

He also is the director of GSU strategic initiatives and directly oversees the implementation of the Union’s annual and multi-year plans. The GSU has a number of strategic initiatives to pursue this coming year.

Madhav Bhargav | Vice President Madhav (Maddy) is the Vice President of the GSU and studied for his M.Sc in Applied Psychology in 2017. As an international student in Trinity, he understands the difficulties of studying in a foreign country, but also knows what a fantastic experience it can be. As your GSU Vice President, his main role is to act as your Education and Welfare Officer. This means that he is here to advise you on matters, and advocate on your behalf if you have issues, academic and/or personal. Haleigh Elisabeth York | Equality and Diversity Officer Haleigh is currently pursuing a H.Dip in Psychology at Trinity. Her previous volunteer work in the United States with the Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan, and Community Based Instruction (CBI) have allowed her to work with people of all ages with special needs. She credits her younger brother, who was born with the chromosomal disorder Down syndrome, for sparking her passion at a young age to get involved with the broader community. As the Equality and Diversity Officer of the GSU, Haleigh’s primary goal is to promote a safe campus environment for all. Ann-Marie Monaghan | HS Faculty Representative Ann is currently completing a PhD in Physiotherapy, following a BSc also in Physiotherapy here at Trinity.  Ann has previously been involved with the GSU as a PhD student representative for the School of Medicine before taking on the role of HS representative. Through her teaching of both undergraduate physiotherapy and medicine students, Ann is in close contact with the student body and experiences many of the issues facing other postgraduate students at different stages of their academic career. Crazy right ?! But then her job as an English teacher took her to Vietnam and Oman before she arrived in Dublin to do her M.Sc. in Interactive Digital Media. Typical right ?! She's been lucky enough to live in and travel to countries she grew up watching on Nat Geo TV as a child. Now she's here in Dublin and delighted to be representing you - the vibrant and amazingly diverse PG body at Trinity. Tim van Wanrooij  | Director of GSU Spaces Tim is currently studying a H.Dip in Psychology and holds a BSc. in Social Work. He has been heavily involved with the GSU and has experience in ambassadorship for his previous university, congresses and diverse volunteering organisations.  As the Director of the 1937 Reading Room, Tim will manage development of the new kitchen, report broken PCs on your behalf and will help with rectifying unusable power sockets, plus he will manage the notice board. He is also director of all other GSU Postgraduate space in Trinity (including the Common Room in House 7 which can only be booked for meetings and events by directly contacting him). As the overall Director of GSU Spaces, Tim is your go-to person for any problems you may incur while utilising designated postgraduate GSU spaces in the college.
